Day 186- Back on track and building steam!

Day 186- Back on track and building steam!

Calli: Go SQUATS! I love doing weights because I am seeing
instant results! I never see instant results when working out. I feel stronger
because I know I am. Squats can be so difficult at first foe me…but just
after a week of doing them every other day I can see a major improvement. I am
still wearing my knee brace, and I love it because I can run downhills with out
it hurting. I’m BACK BABY!!! I’m here to stay! Many great things to come for
Let’s TRI!

Jose: Today was another great day to run. I didn’t get up early since I
had a complicated night. Good thing I still have the nights to workout even
though normally I’m even more tired from the day and I just wish I can
relax for a while. The treadmill was set for a maximum 20 minutes so I
had to break my training in two. I did an 18 min run first at a pace of
4.09 min/km (almost getting the goal 4 min/km the whole time) and then a
second “cool down” run of 13 minutes at a pace of 4.53 min/km. Overall
it was great. I feel very happy about almost reaching my goal but then I
still have to practice on the road. Two very different situations…

Day 184 – Holding a Tree

Day 184 – Holding a Tree

Calli- What a day! I got off work and ran to the gym. I did
my weights (felt a slight tweak in my right knee) and then ran home again. I
had to wear my knee brace because I am starting up again after a month. I need
to build the strength back up. I really like doing weights, and I think it’s
because I know that it actually does help you become a better athlete. Have fun
out there!

Jose- Night run for me today. I went to the gym with restricted time since I usually pick Calli up from work at night. I ran 7.68km in 35.5 minutes. That is an average speed of 13 km/hr, however it went down due to my cool down period. I started at 12km/hr and as soon as my body was all warmed up, I moved to 15km/hr (4 min/km) and stayed there for over 10 minutes. After reducing my speed to 13 km/hr for a few minutes, I finished with another 5 minutes of the high pace and made a cool down at 12 km/hr. I couldn’t measure my heart rate because I forgot my monitor but i felt great the whole time. That whole run made me feel great but now I definitely need to rest!

Day 181 – Cool Bricks

Day 181 – Cool Bricks

The best thing about bricks is when you can actually jump from one sport to the other without feeling like you are going to fall down on your face. It has been a while since the last time I did a brick day and I’m completely happy to know that I can do it now without having to make my muscles get used to that again. Reviewing my goals, I realized that now running at 12km/hr is not challenging for me anymore and I decided to start at 15 km/hr and hold that speed until my body needs a break. I biked for 30 challenging minutes (since it was short on time, so I made them extra challenging), to jump afterwards to a 12 minute run at 15 km/hr. The speed was good enough to hold it the whole time, even good enough to let me run back home from the gym. Overall great training day! Let’s see what my legs need to say tomorrow! Calli couldn’t train today because of her work. I’ll make sure she reinstates on these coming days!

Day 179 – 60Km for Cancer

Day 179 – 60Km for Cancer

Calli – I just want to congratulate Jose and his run for the Ulman Cnacer fund. Also , all the people who supported him in it! You all did an amazing job and it will mean a lot to many people. Happy fun time everyone! Oh yea, after the weights…I’m so sore!

Jose – Today I decided to finish my contribution to the Ulman Cancer Fund with an easy run this morning of a little bit less than 6km. I would love to say thanks from the bottom of my heart to all the people that supported me on this and that made their donation for the cause. Without the support of each one of them, this would have made less sense, however, knowing that each time I was running for the young adults with cancer and also for the people who were supporting me, that gave complete sense to the 60km (37.3 miles) that my legs managed to run. This might be just a regular day for the great Rev3 team, but for me it represents a lot more. I didn’t even make it in one day, but every morning, evening or night effort was a proof to myself of how much I can achieve with the appropriate motivation. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to make the full donation for the Run Across America initiative. Now my legs need a little bit of rest. At least a couple of days. I have two biking days coming so that would be perfect to give my running muscles a well deserved rest. Seriously thanks again to everyone! This meant a lot for me and it will mean immensely more to the Ulman Cancer Fund.

Day 178: The Right Angle

Day 178: The Right Angle

Calli: Even after swimming for many years, Jose brought something to my attention. I breath with my head slightly tilted up. I have gotten so comfortable swimming that I let some things slide from where they are supposed to be. I am really happy to have a work out buddy like Jose! He has a good eye and he is so sweet when he’s giving input. I like constructive criticism that doesn’t tear me down, but instead make me more aware of myself. Thanks Jose xoxox! Also, I started weight again tonight! Yes..stronger knee here we come!

Jose: I had double shift tonight too. I went out for a 10km run to round up to 55km on my contribution to Run Across America. Today the shoes treated me better than yesterday. Even though I ran almost the same route, this time I didn’t have any major problem with my feet. Going uphill my pace went up all the way to 6:24 min/km, however I managed to take back around 5 minutes on my way down with a pace of 4:21 min/km. It was a very good run with an average HR of 164, meaning I could have probably gone a little bit faster at some point. After the run I jumped to the pool and swam around 700 meters and a steady easy pace just to relax my muscles. Freestyle and pull where my two choices for the night. This week I didn’t have a strict swim schedule because of the running compromise but next week I’ll return to the hard stuff again!
