Day 45: Let’s rest instead…

Calli comes tonight from the US in a couple of hours so instead of doing swimming day we decided to swim tomorrow and take the day off today.

We found this great video about the Arizona Ironman. Don’t worry we are not going to talk about this forever. The thing is that it reflects very well all the journey of a regular person trying to become an Ironman finisher. The Pros can finish in 8 or 9 hours, but for a normal person it takes 12, 14 or even 17 hours! 17 hours of your day swimming, biking and running… The truth is that it doesn’t take just 17 hours of your day but most important, it takes COURAGE, COMPROMISE and MENTAL STRENGTH among others to finish an Ironman.

This video is 10 minutes long. If you think that is just too much, try waking up in the morning for months or years to dedicate one or two hours of your day (or more if you are a pro) to train for something as big as this! THAT really is too long! However, as I said a few days ago, people participating in an Ironman are different. All of them have a very clear objective in their heads, which is finishing that day with a whole new perspective about what they are and what can they achieve.

Are we the right material for an Ironman? We really hope to be someday! But today we want to say KUDOS to every single finisher! Every single mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, son or daughter that after a whole week of pain and recovery can look at their family and friends and say: I’m an Ironman Finisher!

Calli, I heard you arrived safely in Costa Rica.

Inspired by your idea, I’ve decided to start my training plan over. August’s made me a training plan months ago. He named the excel file as, “Caitlin’s Fun Plan.” He must’ve known I wouldn’t stick to it. I started it on Monday. It’s going good so far, but it’s only been 4 days. LOL. I decided to take the day off as well on Wednesday…and train on Thursday. I think this blog is so cool! Well yesterday. Today I will be doing 30 minutes of Over Distance,Level 1, and 18 minutes of Up/Vertical Intervals. I’m trying to discipline myself to workout in the morning. So, I’ll be leaving right now to the gym.

Caitlin! That is great…would you mind explaining a little bit what it means to do over distance and up/vertical intervals? How did your work out go by the way? Feel free to describe your mental thoughts, what motivates you, and any aches and pains you might have. That way we will train together…long distance! Jose and I are still going over August’s excel, which is amazing! I can’t wait to start using it! Happy fun time!

  3. I agree. I tried going for 8 years wtoihut running, or doing any other competitive activities, and it was miserable. I gained 25 pounds. was constantly frustrated, and was not a happy camper.I’ve found that setting a goal (bike/run/swim), training very hard for it, then accomplishing the goal, makes me very happy. At age 65, I’ve decided to do what makes ME happy, and to stop feeling guilty about it. I used to struggle to do what I thought I should do lots of noble volunteer work, killing myself at a business, etc.. So I train hard, eat right, go to lots of races, and have a heck of a good time. That’s what I plan to do with the rest of my life. Hooooahhhh!
